Okay so I have watched the movie “The Kissing Booth” way too many times on Netflix over the last couple of months. I can’t even describe why this movie is so cute and funny. I am a 43 year-old woman, not a high school girl which I am sure is the intended audience but I totally love it. It is just a great coming of age and first love story. It reminds me a little of all the great 80s RomComs that I grew up with. The coolest part is that Molly Ringwald, the queen of the 80’s brat pack is also a mom in the movie. I guess sometimes we all need to be reminded of high school romance and the way it makes you feel. Elle is a great main character with a unique twist on an old story of falling in love with your best friend’s older brother. I say it’s an old story because I remember doing it myself at one point in high school. I guess as a high school teacher it also helps to watch popular shows and movies so that I can relate to what the kids are talking about in class. You would be surprised how many times knowing about a show or movie helped me connect with a kid in class. Aside from the obvious reasons I watch these silly movies, I also find them a guilty pleasure. We all want to be reminded of what it feels like to be young. I honestly don’t feel old but I don’t feel young anymore either.
So if you haven’t seen the movie than you might enjoy the trailer:
